“Combating the New Wave of Islamophobia and Xenophobia in the South”
Join radical law students, legal workers and lawyers from around the South at our annual NLG (National Lawyers Guild) Southern Regional Conference, to be held this March 18 and 19 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina!
The panel “Combating the New Wave of Islamophobia and Xenophobia in the South” on
lamophobia and Xenophobia in the South” on Saturday March 19th will examine the wave of Islamophobia and Xenophobia sweeping the South in the recent months as exhibited by many Governors’ attempts to ban Syrian refugees from their states or deny them services. The panel will also examine ways in which local communities have organized to counter the attacks. Lastly, the panel will examine the roots of the refugee crisis, specifically the role of the US government in creating it.
This conference (NLG Southern Regional Conference) will convene for two days (March 18 and 19) and will include workshops, CLEs, parties and strategizing for movement building. Stay tuned for more details on the schedule, which is set to include conversations related to housing, voting rights, civil rights, xenophobia and much more.
