Islamophobia Talk at Highland United Methodist Church
September 20, 2016 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Presentation on “Challenging Racism and Islamophobia” at Highland United Methodist Church
Highland United Methodist Church in Raleigh, NC, will organize a talk titled “Challenging Racism and Islamophobia”. This talk will be presented by Manzoor Cheema, coordinator of Movement to End Racism and Islamophobia or MERI. Movement to End Racism and Islamophobia is a network which stands and acts together against all forms of Islamophobia and racism. This hate is being targeted against both Muslim individuals and entire groups perceived as Muslims. We understand both Islamophobia and racism within a framework that sees how discrimination based on race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, and religion are part of multiple, interlocking forms of oppression that reinforce and sustain one another.
Message from Highland United Methodist Church’s Senior Pastor, Steve McElroy
Welcome to Highland UMC and to our website. We want to take the opportunity to invite you to be a part of this caring, vital congregation. Know that there is a place here at Highland for you to connect, to belong and be in ministry.
We are seeking to love, serve and share Christ Jesus in our community and in the world. People of Highland take serving others seriously. We desire to be God-centered, real in our faith and actively engaged in the community, connecting others to God and each other and we want to empower persons to be in ministry.
I believe God is calling us to be the best church we can be for the community, not the best church in the community.
Come be our guest, pray with us and see if Highland can become your church family.
