Support MERI to Defeat Anti-Muslim Bigotry

Movement to End Racism and Islamophobia (MERI) was launched in February 2015, after Islamophobic attacks against Imam Griggs at Wake Forest University and murder of three Muslim students in Chapel Hill. Our mission is to work against all forms of Islamophobia and discrimination. Since then, MERI has met with representatives of churches, synagogues, peace and justice organizations and academic institutions throughout North Carolina. MERI has grown to a network of 13 partner organizations, and continues to grow. MERI has organized and spoken before forums and events on Islamophobia that reached about one thousand people.  These included events at Wake Forest University, The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Pullen Memorial Church, Temple Beth Or, Cumberland County Library, as well as conferences on Islamophobia in Chicago and New York. Op-eds, letters-to-the-editor and stories by and about MERI partners were published in local, national and international media. Our interviews and statements have been covered by Reuters, Deutsche Welle (Germany), Today’s Zaman (Turkey), Gulf Times (Qatar), CNN Indonesia, WRAL, The News and Observer, The Herald-Sun, The Daily Tar Heel, Fayetteville Observer, among other media organizations. Our goal is to work for and promote the message for a more peaceful and loving society.
